Inside the Nicest HBCU Program: Prairie View A&M
The #1 Team in the SWAC

Panther Stadium stands out among other SWAC venues for several reasons
Seats 15,000 fans
Features 10 skyboxes
500 premium seats
Athletic Director Suite

“ I was a student athlete here, and when we only had a 1,500 seat stadium that sits on this exact same surface, and looking at this […] you can oversee the entire campus.”
Panther Weight Room

The Panther weight room accommodates all 18 sports for Prairie View A&M.
“All of this is going to look totally different. We’re getting a full facelift — new weights, a full rebrand. It’s an NFL-caliber weight room, with some new additions coming.”
Dr. Williams wasn’t joking when he said, “NFL-caliber weight room.” The Assistant Performance Coach for the Minnesota Vikings is actually a former Prairie View player, Marquis Johnson. And those NFL ties have paid off big time for the program since a lot of the equipment in this facility is actually from the Vikings.
Game Day at Panther Stadium
Why this non-conference game matters:
This was near the beginning of Prairie View A&M’s 2025 season, before they had played SWAC opponents like Grambling State, Alabama A&M, and Jackson State. It was the first year under head coach Tremaine Jackson. That game ended up marking the beginning of a record-breaking season for the Panthers.
Overall Game Day Experience:
You could feel the energy in the air with the band thundering in the background. There were several big plays early, including a 56-yard run by Tevin Carter, and Northwestern had big plays of their own that kept the game close.
The fans were passionate, and the staff stayed locked in from start to finish. Looking back, the game was closer than it probably should’ve been. At the time, I didn’t realize I was watching the eventual SWAC champion. The Panthers won 27-24.

Head Coach Tremaine Jackson
As a football fan, it’s obvious that Panther Nation had a great season. They became SWAC West Champions, then beat Jackson State to claim the No. 1 spot in the SWAC and secure their first 10-win season in the modern Division I era.
But what truly makes this program stand apart is the standard of excellence. Coach Jackson said it best.
“We fell short. There are no participation trophies in our program. We did some good things along the way. These guys are champions of the SWAC Conference, but we wanted to win here—the HBCU National Championship. We will get better, and we will be back.”
